The Council Tool Velvicut 1.25# Premium Hudson Bay Belt Hatchet is the ideal companion for camping, backpacking, bushcraft, homesteading, wilderness survival, or backyard chores. The 14" handle allows it to easily handle tasks such as splitting kindling, creating tinder, driving tent stakes, and more. The swooped toe makes carving a breeze and the overall size is perfect to store in a backpack or duffel.
Made in North Carolina, USA, all Council Tool products are built from American-made steel and American hickory. The head is forged from 5160 grade allow steel and the cutting edge has been meticulously sharpened by Council Tool's skilled craftsmen. A sharp axe is a safe axe! The bit is heat treated and quenched approximately 1-inch from the cutting edge, then tempered for maximum edge holding and toughness with final hardness Rc 52-56.
The handle is constructed from grade "A" American hickory and is heirloom quality with a traditional pattern from a time when lives depended on tools. The forged axe head is traditionally hung using a softwood wedge and a steel wedge for added security. The axe head is coated with a light oil to combat rust and the handle is protected with a linseed oil coating.
The Velvicut Premium Hudson Bay Hatchet is available with two different head cover options:
Full leather sheath
Full leather mask
