Made in North Carolina, USA, all Council Tool products are built from American-made steel and American hickory. The head is forged from 5160 grade allow steel and the cutting edge has been meticulously sharpened by Council Tool's skilled craftsmen. A sharp axe is a safe axe! The bit is heat treated and quenched approximately 1-inch from the cutting edge, then tempered for maximum edge holding and toughness with final hardness Rc 52-56.
The 24" handle is constructed from grade "A" American hickory and is heirloom quality with a traditional pattern from a time when lives depended on tools. The slightly longer handle works better for big timber and for splitting wood but is still a full foot shorter than the standard length of a felling axe. This allows for portability in bushcrafting, camping, hunting, and hiking. A good quality axe is invaluable for any time spent outdoors. This forged axe head is traditionally hung using a softwood wedge and a steel wedge for added security. The axe head is coated with a light oil to combat rust and the handle is protected with a linseed oil coating.
