Rick Hinderer began making knives in a small turkey coop back in the 1980’s. As a fire fighter and EMT, he created knives as tools to be used, not just works of art. A slight departure from the XM-18, the Jurassic Flipper preserves the Hinderer style of toughness and ergonomics, but the two-finger grooves of the Jurassic give the knife an incredibly solid saber grip. Rick's wife Lori thought this knife design resembled a large claw, and the name "Jurassic" seemed to fit the design well.
There is a raised spine, which Rick calls a "drop edge," and this gives you much more cutting power as the cutting surface is positioned slightly lower in your hand. The dragon scale texturing allows for a solid grip, adding to the name Jurassic Flipper. This knife has the standard XM family hardware and accessories, including the HMBS, Hinderer Modular Backspacer System, which allows you to switch out the backspacer with no disassembly required.
With the Jurassic Flipper slightly smaller than the XM-18 (3.25" versus 3.5" in closed length) the Jurassic is a reliable and pocket friendly EDC knife. With this variation, the top scale is black G-10 with the bottom scale in titanium.
